After being awarded the Westpac Innovation Fund, Pocketful engaged us to help take their new product concept from initiation to prototype. With a significant challenge at hand, “how to help New Zealanders in hardship better manage their money”, we needed to understand their market’s problems at depth.
We led the team through an extensive problem discovery process. Including 40 customer interviews, 150 digital surveys and in-depth conversations with experts. We let the data mapping speak for itself and identified the greatest problems that New Zealanders in hardship are facing. The resulting opportunities formed the basis of product ideation and the design of low-fidelity prototypes for testing.
We helped Bio Gold New Zealand identify the most appropriate market for their natural health products based around New Zealand pine pollen. They had already started in-person sales but wanted to ensure they were building their online presence and messaging for the right market before scaling their project.
In addition to training their team through our design process, we also upskilled them in leading self-organising team processes, and work-flow management. They now have the ability to apply all of this knowledge to future products.

Product Tree was created by Fraser & Dana, two kiwi tech founders who repeatedly saw early-stage tech companies invest money, energy and time into growing their business without thoroughly testing their business ideas.
Drawing upon their experiences as product founders, they started advising New Zealand tech companies in product strategy, design, and development, ultimately de-risking products before committing a significant investment.
The accumulation of this work, gave birth to Product Tree. A Product Design Studio, helping test, prototype and accelerate your product to market.
Fraser co-founded environmental edtech company Squawk Squad and open banking fintech Choice. He specializes in all things product, is a trained designer and is passionate about impact-driven technology. Fraser was a 2020 Young New Zealander of the Year Finalist, he is a TEDx speaker and an Edmund Hillary Fellow. A tech-head and wildlife lover.
Dana is Co-Founder of GovTech startup Spring. Alongside Ministry of Social Development and NZ’s leading banks, Spring is addressing digital financial education in Aotearoa. Dana is trained in equity-based design. She is a financial education expert by day and digital illustrator by night, also Founder of Wild Wāhine Studio.
